This is a position where you can use your existing knowledge, but also gain new knowledge and skills. You will be responsible for mechanical designs and for delivering and testing the products within the projects. You will have regular contact with suppliers and subcontractors whilst you can also expect close cooperation with industry partners. Occasional travel may be expected.
The position includes creative R&D, design, development, testing, follow-up of manufacturing and integration within products. Last, but not least, in this role you get to “have fun” as you will also be hands on, especially when it comes to prototyping and testing.
Other skills we look for are technical writing skills for developing and reviewing documentation, cross-functional teamwork, stakeholder management, and problem solving. Technical understanding and knowledge of manufacturing methods is also required. The working language is English.

Key responsibilities and tasks.
- Design mechanical parts as well as electro-mechanical assemblies according to R&D project requirements.
- Create 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Perform material selection, FEA analysis, temperature simulations, manufacturability assessments and other assessments to ensure integrity of product.
- Create and maintain product documentation.
- Assist in selection and follow up of suppliers for mechanical parts.
- Participate in supporting the Manufacturing and Support organization.
- Ensure good communication between the different disciplines working on the Project.
- Guide and manage contractors and junior team members.
- Plan and perform prototype assembly and qualification testing.
- Ensure technical issues and/or questions related to the mechanical design are solved in a timely manner.

Who are we looking for?
As a person you have a positive attitude and thrive when working in an international environment. You have excellent communication skills and are able to communicate with staff, suppliers and subcontractors at all levels. Additionally, you are someone who can mentor and share knowledge among your colleagues.
We are primarily looking for a candidate with a Masters-degree within mechanical design or related subjects. Bachelors degree holders will be evaluated based on experience. Education within mechanical design, or related subjects.
You have been working a minimum of 5 years with mechanical design. And you have experience and knowledge within:
- 3D design tools. Shearwater are using SolidWorks.
- Prototype procurement and qualification testing.
- FEA tools. E.g. Ansys.
- Design of underwater equipment (Preferable, but not required).
