Chemical Engineer | Photoncycle | Oslo
Photoncycle is a cutting-edge scale-up company within the renewable energy sector. Do you want to join our mission to revolutionize the way we power our lives?
Do you have experience from chemical/process engineering and want to play pivotal role in a rapid growing scale-up within the renewable energy sector?
Photoncycle is a cutting edge scale-up company within the renewable energy sector. The job of Chemical Engineer is crucial for connecting what we know in theory with what we do in practice. If you love turning lab experiments into real processes, designing chemical reactors and other process units, and making science work in the real world, we'd love to hear from you!
About Photoncycle
Photoncycle develops the first of its kind energy conversion and long-term storage system for the detached household sector, enabling homeowners to store surplus electricity produced during the summer so it can be used to meet electricity and heat demand during the winter. A 3 m3 storage unit will contain 10,000 kWh of energy. The technology has been prototyped in Photoncycle’s state of the art laboratory at the Oslo Science Park, and independently validated by IFE. The Photoncycle system is being scaled to a pilot and further developed into a product. Photocycle collaborate with leading companies in business like Eviny and Volue. OBOS Block Watne will be the pilot customer for the system. Strong financial backers will ensure financing for the development of the company, as milestones are met.
The Photoncycle team will grow from 8 to approximately 25 people in 2024, with further significant expansion envisaged as the technology matures.
Role overview
As a Chemical Engineer at Photoncycle, you will be a key player in shaping the future of renewable energy. The role involves significant responsibility and freedom, and you will take a crucial part in moving the company from a theoretical domain to a more product focused domain.
You will play a key role in our organization’s future success. You will be involved in the entire process from concept to simulation to physical implementation. As a Chemical Engineer, you will contribute to:
- The advancement of processes and products, ensuring they meet high standards of efficiency, quality, cost, and safety within a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Designing high-performance chemical processes, transforming technical knowledge to practical executable simulation models.
- Acting as a bridge between scientific lab results and their physical product implementation.
- Implement one-off pilot in this project phase, leading to larger-scale tests and ultimately volume production.
Who are we looking for?
For this position, we are seeking someone who can demonstrate a proven track record within project chemical engineering, with a minimum of 5 years experience. We are looking for someone who:
- Hold a Bachelor`s or Master`s in Chemical or Process Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Focus on small-scale plants (e.g. specialty chemicals), chemical reactor design, separator design, heat-exchanger integration, etc.
- Understands enough to work with specialists in piping and vessel design, materials selection and chemical compatibility, process instrumentation and controls, and other related disciplines.
- Possess strong technical expertise and the ability to provide hands-on support when required.
- Ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical implementation.
- Holds a background in engineering, underpinned by robust technical competence.
- Has experience with MATLAB and Simulink (not required, but an advantage).
Additionally, we believe to be successful if you have:
- Experience with process instrumentation and controls is an advantage.
- Forward-thinking mindset, with a focus on delivering results.
- Capability to work efficiently in a smaller company and handle multiple aspects of the process engineering field.
- Has a practical “all-rounder” chemical-engineering mindset, able to problem-solve and convert design ideas into physical practice.
- Thrive when working in a small organization where innovation and personal initiative are in focus.
